TOPIC: Twitter

Twitter 2 years, 12 months ago #1203

Does anyone else have an account? We started an account a number of months ago and I have found it to be very useful for developing relationships with a number of key press and analysts. A number of customers also follow our updates as well. If you have an account, let me know. You can follow us at www.twitter.com/paglo if you are interested in the advantages and challenges with using it.

I use twitter for personal purposes and have used it as a business service in the past with mixed results. I don't have a current need for it, but if I did, I'd follow most, if not all of the ideas from www.oreillynet.com/pub/e/1162. It is a great slide deck.

Re: Twitter 2 years, 12 months ago #1207

Ramneek's suggestion looks interesting and helpful, but I need to find an hour to watch the video - and that won't happen during the week. I know of a few people who use Twitter and I think the Obama campaign used it very effectively if my memory is correct. What I'd like to know is how business people like us can use Twitter to enhance our business? Esp. from a sales and marketing perspective. Apologize for jumping on to the thread without providing much value, but this is one of those technologies that I am trying to understand more thoroughly.

Re: Twitter 2 years, 12 months ago #1208

Also I can not add much, but the topic is interesting. I know that some people find Twitter a good tool, but I have yet to see it.

In the last month or so there is a small number of people who started to follow me on Twitter. I'm not sure why. I have not been very active.

I like to understand how to use it to a benefit. You can follow me on twitter.com/psjofors

Whole Foods uses Twitter quite effectively. You can foolow them at twitter.com/WholeFoods and see for yourself. They have 54,000 followers!

Yes, we have a twitter account at www.twitter.com/YieldSW. Just hired a VP of Marketing who is a whiz at social media. Also set up personal twitter accounts. Setting up a community of people interesting in our space is critical to driving our growth. We are doing this simultaneous with setting up other social media channels (i.e. Facebook, You Tube, LinkedIn, etc.), launching our blog and consolidating it under our Community section of our web site (to be launched very shortly).

Re: Twitter 2 years, 11 months ago #1223

Yes, use it to connect to members on the site. It is not really time consuming and I have been surprised by how many people follow

Brian

we've been using Twitter to meet and build relationships with new people for a few months now. For us at least it stands head and shoulders above any other social media in terms of results.

We are in the sort of high tech, SME area so that probably skews the results.

As a result of the payback we get from our efforts we're spending more and more time hanging out on Twitter - Tweetdeck is a very useful tool for the desk top and we use Twittelator on iPhones for mobile access.

The other two apps we use a lot are Twitter Search (with RSS feed) to monitor comment on areas of interest, and we use Twitterfeed to publish our blog posts. These two tools really help us engage with people interested in the same stuff as us and bring us interest from all over the world.

Twellow is a great resource for finding people we want to engage with.

Despite our success I just can't persuade most of my peers they should make the effort, I guess because Twitter can be intimidating at first. It's also very time consuming.

But, they'll all get there in the end, I'm sure.

I'll be sure to follow you and everybody on this thread and for anybody interested in connecting I can be reached @frontofficebox

We've just started using Twitter. So far it's been create for stitching the company together, we're based in different places and travel a lot. We're a b2b company so we haven't seen many customers on but there are a few thought leaders on - we'll see what happens over the next few months.

I was initially worried about competitive intelligence leakage - if I'm in a particular area that would be interesting to competitors. But I don't worry about that much anymore - I can always protect my updates if I get concerned.

We do have a company Twitter account which we'll be using for announcements to customers.

For the moment, it's more than proved it's worth as an internal tool to help everyone get to know each other, even over physical distance.

We've found Twitter to be very valuable at building relationships. Ambient conversation on Twitter => more notice for blog and website => more in-person conversations. At those conversations (oftentimes as part of a presentation opportunity), more Twitter connections are made. It's a virtuous circle.

We use Twitter to announce new product launches, tips and other announcements regarding our company. It is great and have brought lots of relevant traffic to our site.

Twitter is extremely useful!

@BenSideline - I use it for personal observations/comments, posting articles of interest, and engaging high profile people I normally can't pick up the phone and call or email. It's also been useful to throw random survey questions out relative to what we're working on in semi-stealth mode.

Re: Twitter 2 years, 10 months ago #1358

likewise very useful for us - have got two major pitches under way as a result, plus numerous requests for interviews, speaker opportunities etc.
