  1. First of all, I am a Chinese parent brought up in Hongkong. I was intrigued by the title of this article and started reading it a bit. I was shocked, horrified, and ashamed by this so called professor's viewpoint. I have never ever met a Chinese parent sharing, believing, and practicing anything close to what was being preached in her article, in my past 52 years living in HK, London, and California. Upon further reading in an ABCNew article http://abcnews.go.com/Health/jewish-author-responds-wsj-chinese-mothering-controversy/story?id=12623592, this would appear to be yet another case of Shirley Sherrod - quoted out of context, intentionally or not. Chinese parents are just like regular parents, some of them might be more wiling to sacrifice their time and their own interest for their kids than others, as the author claimed. That's about the only thing that I would tend to agree with this lady. Joe
