I started my first software company, Ross Systems, built and sold it nearly 2 decades later. As every entrepreneur does, I faced numerous issues at Ross Systems and my subsequent companies, including many that I couldn’t discuss with my management team.  Other topics I couldn’t comfortably raise with my board or investors.  Some of these problems involved people who reported to me – hiring, firing, managing and compensating them.  Others dealt with my own compensation or equity ownership.  At times, I disagreed with my board and wanted some independent advice.  And then there was the sudden crisis where I needed immediate expertise with a specific problem or wanted an expert consultant.  Where did I turn? 

I found that discussing these issues with peers provided the type of independent advice I was seeking and provided me with insights on how to solve my own problems.  Recently, sites like LinkedIn and Facebook began to explode as mass-market offerings, but they didn’t offer the opportunity for confidential exchanges among pre-qualified members.  I saw an opportunity to leverage these social networking concepts to offer top tier executives the capability to interact on the web with a community of like-minded individuals to solve the real-world problems they face every day.
